Abstract :
In this paper, a novel method for the accurate calculation of the transition activity in the nodes of a MAC (Multiplier-ACcumulator) unit implementing FIR filters is introduced. The transition activity of a signal word is modeled according to the DBT model and is expressed as a function of the signal statistics, assuming that the input sequence is described by a stationary Gaussian process. An efficient technique is proposed for the analytical determination of the signal statistics at each node of the architecture. It is based on the mathematical formulation of the multiplexing in time of signal sequences with already known statistics
