Abstract :
The enhancement of images plays a crucial role in the detection of illicit objects from airport luggage. On the basis of 11 statistical measures of image viewability, we compare both new and old methods of image enhancement for aviation security application. Our research shows that some of the newer methods of enhancement consistently outperform most others that are regularly used at airports on measures of viewability, which supports our argument that airport security consoles must be updated with our suggested enhancement techniques.
