Abstract :
This paper presents a new method for extracting turn-on times from transient backscattered responses of wire structures. A turn-on time is the boundary of early times and late times. Due to the impulse-like pulses at early times, it is difficult to determine a turn-on time from the entire time domain responses. Incident waves with phi polarization and theta polarization yield significant difference in moving direction of induced charges. This result produces discriminable transient backscattered responses. Therefore, the impulse-like pulses can be chopped off and the turn-on time is extracted. In addition, the separated late-time damped exponentials are analyzed in terms of natural frequencies. Results show that the new method is applicable for objects with thin wire structures.
