Abstract
The authors examine in detail McKesson´s order entry and distribution system, Economost, which is one of the most widely cited strategic information systems, with wide acceptance; nearly 100% of McKesson´s orders are entered electronically by customers. The impact on customers and on McKesson´s costs has been both favorable and considerable. The authors describe the history of Economost and discuss its effect on McKesson and on the industry
