Abstract :
Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what happens to him.” - Aldous Huxley. With this concept in mind, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) team researched and reviewed over 20 Lessons Learned (LL) websites and Interview Lessons Learned leaders of about 10 Federal agencies prior to the development of a LL program. Based on the information gathered, a minipilot program was conducted that tested the acceptability and receptiveness of the program by agency personnel. At present, the LL website has evolved into a Distance e-Learning program based on an user-friend database that includes reference links and navigation tutorials; it is actively managed and captures the successful and not-so-successful experiences that represent a cross-section of FAA programs. The LL committee continues to establish field presence and a community of practice. The ultimate program goal is to develop best practices directly applicable to the FAA based on a combination of external best practices and internal relevant LL articles.
