Abstract :
Direct view CRT display systems of today´s TV receivers with 16 kHz line frequency are based on magnetic deflection and on the unidirectional scanning principle with fast fly-back using an S-corrected sawtooth current. Future IDTV, EDTV and HDTV colour TV-receivers are characterized by higher line frequencies (up to 62 kHz) and a wide aspect ratio (16:9). Direct view CRT´s will feature an almost flat screen and a large deflection angle. Due to the short fly-back time, sawtooth line deflection results in high energy losses, higher radiation problems and higher costs.<>
