Abstract :
The effect of the cladding region on coupling transversely-launched light into the core of a photonic crystal fibre (pcf) is studied experimentally and using a multipole based computer model. The model verifies the experimental observations of the preferred core coupling rotation angles and illustrates the importance of correctly selecting the angle of incidence in a pcf grating writing geometry.
