Abstract :
Eigenstructure assignment techniques have typically focused on the assignment of eigenvalues and in some MIMO cases, the additional assignment of best fit eigenvectors. While eigenvalue specification determines the stability and speed of response, eigenvector specification determines the shape of the transients. There is an important class of structural control problems where control of the transients and hence specification of the eigenvectors is equally if not more important than specification of the eigenvalues. We explore the conditions under which a closed-loop eigenvector may be assigned exactly to a linear system, and derive further conditions under which the closed-loop eigenvalue corresponding to this mode is stable
