Abstract :
Full duplex data transmission over a single fiber has been realized employing adaptive echo cancellation for crosstalk elimination. The system consists of LEDs and PIN/FET modules in symmetrical baseband operation. Two adaptive echo cancellers, memory compensation type, with a simple sign algorithm are connected to the receivers at both ends. With the present echo canceller it is possible to compensate even for distant reflection at the far-end connector and Rayleigh backscattering in the fiber. The adaptability enables the system adjust to any changes in connector reflectance. A pseudorandom sequence is used as dithering noise instead of the conventional uniformly distributed noise. It is proven both theoretically and experimentally that this innovation can improve the signal-to-residual noise ratio over 16 dB
