No company can be expected to master all technologies or areas of knowledge. This makes outsourcing and reliance on external sources of knowledge and technology a necessity for every company. Departing from a knowledge-based perspective on competencies, this paper discusses how suppliers (and other external partners) can contribute to the competence development process
