Electric composite material propeller propulsion system is the energy transmission system for near space airship, the safety and effectiveness of propulsion system is important to airship in both of its safety and performance sides. In this paper, firstly, FMEA method is used to give a brief introduction of failure modes for propulsion system, then failure mechanisms are analyzed for each failure mode of the electric propeller propulsion system, and the reliability flow chart is obtained through these discussions. Finally, solution methods and ground test suggestion are provided to these failure modes. And also, a new ground test system is proposed in order to test the safety and effectiveness of the rear earth Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor, which is useful before the flight of airship.
