Abstract :
A yarn manufacturing enterprise includes diverse components such as process machinery, materials handling equipment, computers, software, databases, communications networks, and people. Integrating all of these components is necessary for continuous improvement of operations and to develop a competitive advantage. The elements of a spinning enterprise and a methodology for integrating it are described. The methodology is based on business planning and structured engineering techniques focused on developing a competitive advantage. Methods of collecting plant-floor data, transmitting it by means of networks and developing an enterprise database are discussed.
