Abstract :
A live-air field trial of a multi-beam antenna system in a TDMA system has been performed in a dense urban environment in Haifa, Israel. The system has been proven to perform extremely well in this very testing scenario and has handled heavy levels of traffic over an extended period while at the same time offering a 3-dB improvement in up and downlink C/I. The trial has addressed the key issues concerning the operation and integration of such a smart antenna system into a live network and represents a significant proof of concept for this method of capacity enhancement.
