Abstract :
The Y-MP computer system comes standard with a powerful input/output subsystem (IOS) and a solid-state storage device (SSD). The IOS acts as a data distribution point for the mainframe, and provides very high I/O bandwidth through the use of parallel I/O processors and direct access to main memory. The SSD is a fast random-access memory device providing high data transfer rates and short access times. The author provides an overview of the computer system, the packaging of the mainframe components, and a brief description of the methods used to design the VLSI circuits, such as the MCA2500ECL Macrocell array
