Abstract
This paper discusses scoring criteria for the evaluation of feasible design solutions regarding the selection of capacitors for DC-DC converters applications. A fitness function is introduced, which provides a weighted evaluation of commercial capacitors based on rated voltage, footprint, capacitance and total number of parts in parallel required to comply with the performance constraints imposed by the specific application. Examples regarding buck-SR converter and SEPIC design are presented to illustrate the use and the benefits of the proposed scoring criteria.
