Abstract :
The authors address the compilation of VLSI programs described in CP-0 into VLSI circuits. So-called abstract circuits play a central role in the compilation method. Abstract circuits are obtained by a syntax-directed decomposition of CP-0 programs and may subsequently be implemented as delay-insensitive (`purely self-timed´) circuits. The compilation method is presented together with an assessment of the performance of compiled delay-insensitive circuits based on first-time-right silicon. It is concluded that, with the compilation method presented, CP-0 programs of any complexity can be implemented as efficient VLSI circuits
