Abstract :
The authors deal with the respiratory patterns of lungs during artificial ventilation in the frequency domain. The mathematical treatment used different types of lung models, such as Mead, modified Mead and Hildebrandt model. The analysis included not only the mechanical properties of the lungs, but also the mechanical features of the respirator-patient circuit. Simulation results have provided unambiguously that optimization of artificial ventilation can be realized by the minimization of side effects.<>
