Abstract
There is an on-going thrust within the Department of Defense (DoD) to maximize the use of commercial off the shelf (COTS) automatic test systems (ATS) in order to gain the benefits of the latest technology, availability, commonality from factory to depot, and economies of scale. While simple in concept, the application of commercial ATS has unique challenges that can have a major effect on the overall success of the new or replacement ATS program. The system integrator function, whether performed by the customer or a third party system integrator, is a necessary program component for the successful application of commercial ATS to DoD applications
