Abstract
Military Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) imposes stringent requirements on power stimulus and power load ATE. There is significant benefit to consolidating the large variety of offerings supporting legacy programs while at the same time progressing to support the ATE needs of future weapon systems. It is also important that the resulting effort have broad commercial market appeal. Elgar Electronics has developed a modular programmable power system addressing these objectives. It is highly configurable to best utilize assets. The number of assets has been minimized by providing high power density and by supporting parallel/series interconnect to cover a larger variety of applications. The modules have advance instrumentation capability diminishing the need of support ATE. TPS compatibility is enhanced through more capable power components including programmable characteristics. This is accomplished through extensive use of digital power control which has the added benefit of easy alteration for custom needs. The shallow 4U rack-mount packaging is analogous to PXI/VXI but with attention to the cooling needs of power. LXI and IVI conformance are design objectives
