Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel Adaptive Time-Threshold-based bandwidth allocation Scheme for Multimedia calls (ATTSM) in cellular networks. In proposed scheme, multimedia services include voice and data calls and the bandwidth threshold for non-prioritized handoff multimedia calls and new multimedia calls can be varied adaptively based on handoff and new multimedia call arrival rates. This makes it possible that there are the increasing numbers of new multimedia calls and non-prioritized handoff multimedia calls which can successfully occupies bandwidth units in ATTSM when carried traffic is heavier. The ATTSM increases service provider satisfaction by improving the bandwidth utilizations at the cost of increasing the prioritized multimedia handoff call dropping probabilities that may tolerate uncritical dropping compared with Fixed Time-Threshold-based bandwidth allocation Scheme (FTTSM). Simulation results validate the superiority of ATTSM over FTTSM. Hence, the proposed scheme provides good QoS guarantees for both mobile multimedia users and the service provider.
