Facing cut-throat competition, how to cut cost and improve quality is a major concern in business. By continuous process improvement, organizations can reach both goals at the same time. Six Sigma and CMMI are the most process improvement methods in R&D business and are proven effective in practice. This paper reviews the concepts of each discipline and presents integration solution of merging Six Sigma and CMMI to a unified framework. The paper offers a case study of ATS (Automated Test System) process improvement and the “lessons learned” from practice.
