Abstract :
Shielded sensor-in-gap tape heads were fabricated and characterized, showing an output of 1.8 mVpp/μm at low density and 0.58 mVpp/μm at 100 KFCI. The operation of the spin-valve sensor is discussed and the performance of TbCo, NiO and MnRh exchange layers is compared, showing MR signals up to 6.5% and thermal stability above 250°C. Sensor-in-gap geometry is discussed and the wafer fabrication process is also described
