Abstract :
A laboratory experiment that implements a remote control of a direct current motor using infra-red radiation has been developed. The user can power on, or power off, a direct-current motor by pressing a key on a TV remote control device. The motor toggles state in response to user input. The system incorporates several basic analog and digital electronic devices, as well as opto-electronic devices. The experiment is well-suited for undergraduate students, since infra-red devices are used in a large spectrum of applications, such as remote control of instruments, optical measurement of distances, temperature measurements, and movement detection. This experiment has been used in an introductory course in Analog and Digital Electronics with great educational success
