Abstract :
The paper is an insight into a personal communication service network using a geo-synchronous orbit satellite having regional coverage which can be seamlessly extended. The system is a line-of-sight communication system. The basic concepts and the major components of the system are depicted. The network is an access network. It relies on the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and the public land mobile networks (PLMN) to complete end-to-end services. The network provides single hop call connectivity for mobile-to-PSTN and mobile-to-mobile calls. It can penetrate extremely isolated areas where the terrestrial PSTN and PLMN cannot. The network, together with its inter-working features of terrestrial cellular system provides a seamless network of universal mobile communication
