Abstract
As a technique exploring the data inside geometric models, volume rendering is becoming a hot topic in graphics. Obtaining a well-designed transfer function is a challenging task in general volume rendering. This paper constructs a flexible transfer function model for the rendering of finite element data. In finite element analysis, the information in a critical region, where the concerned properties have the extreme value, is generally most interesting. The extreme region and the embedded data are displayed by adjusting the opacity and the color parameters of the transfer function, respectively. The transfer function is beneficial for the generation of cloud pictures inside the finite element model. The flexible is tested and verified through a case study.
