Abstract :
Summary form only given. High-repetition-rate Cr/sup 4+/:YAG femtosecond lasers are interesting for possible applications in optical communication systems. Using of a three-element cavity consisting of a gain medium, a concave mirror (lens), and a prism resulted in 1.2-GHz repetition rate operation. However, to achieve a still higher repetition rate, a more compact cavity design is needed. I have designed and demonstrated a new cavity for a femtosecond laser which consists of only two elements, a gain medium and a Littrow prism.
