Abstract :
This paper describes an automatic method based on the phase portrait theory for studying vortical flow features. The potential of this technique for studying blood flow features using multi-directional magnetic resonance velocity imaging is demonstrated both in normal subjects and in patients. The method relies on detecting critical flow features prior to analysing dynamical indices of the fluid, and therefore is well suited to the topological study of complex flow patterns
