  • Abstract
A malleable penile prosthesis made from silicon rubber, having one end fixed and the other free, is treated as a long column with end loading. It is found that this prosthesis can withstand a load of about 300 lb, deflecting only 0.3 mu m. During the experiment, the prosthesis was loaded without any muscle structure surrounding it. Once placed inside an actual penis with the muscles intact, the total girth of the penis increases, which helps it to carry a load beyond 185 lbs, so the prosthesis is safe in design.<>
