Abstract
In this paper we have investigated the joint power and rate adaptation strategies for multicast services for downlink communication. We have proposed a theoretical framework to find out the achievable spectrum efficiency upper boundary of such a scenario and the corresponding optimal solution for power and rate adaptation. Sub-optimal adaptation schemes were also studied and detailed parameter analysis was fulfilled. Numerical results show that one of the suboptimal adaptation schemes with constant power can achieve nearly optimal performance with the simplest adaptation function and parameter selection. The optimal parameter settings were also derived from the numerical analysis.
