Abstract
The concept of virtual quadrature source (VQS) was introduced and a novel phase and amplitude controllable voltage regulator (PACVR) was proposed. The single-phase PACVR comprises of a Buck type AC chopper, a 3rd harmonic trap and a Boost type AC chopper. In relation to the input voltage, the phase and amplitude of the output voltage are regulated respectively. The Buck type AC chopper and the 3rd harmonic trap regulate the phase and the Boost type AC chopper regulates the amplitude. Based on the single-phase PACVR, the three-phase PACVR is constructed and deduced. The 3rd harmonic trap could be canceled in the three-phase PACVR, so it has simple structure. The PACVR has potential applications to control power flow in grid and its principle was analyzed in detail. Simulation and experimental results show its feasibility and the correctness of the theory.
