Abstract
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a new network architecture for providing multimedia service in the next generation network. 3GPP R6 standards specified that both Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) are default protocols. So IMS network needs to interwork with the early deployed Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)-based IMS clients. In this paper, we introduce a Session Border Controller (SBC) between IMS Core and clients to handle this interworking. We present the architecture and call flows of SBC. An analytic model is proposed to investigate the fault tolerance issue of our approach.
