  • Abstract
A new normalized least mean square-zero forcing (NLMS-ZF) approach for data detection, based on the NLMS algorithm and using the zero forcing principle, is developed for WCDMA based high speed packet access (HSDPA) systems. The proposed NLMS-ZF data detection approach, which uses channel state information, has lower complexity than the conventional ZF approach. It is also shown to overcome the noise amplification problem, which is a major disadvantage of the ZF approach at low SNRs. Using numerical simulations, the BER performance of NLMS-ZF approach is proven to be better than that of the conventional NLMS based data detection for various signaling and channel scenarios.
