Abstract :
A framework for the integration of expert systems into various activities performed by robots is outlined. Basic robot concepts are presented, the importance of robots is discussed, and their limitations are indicated. The integrated of expert systems into robotics is examined both in the areas of planning and design and in the area of operations. Improvements in speed, capabilities, quality, maintainability, and safety are the major targets of the integration. The state of the art of such an integration is presented. Practical applications in assembly lines, material handling, and welding are described
