Abstract :
AI concepts such as the theory of belief, the theory of evidence, belief reasoning with uncertainty, and truth maintenance systems are applied to improve security in very large distributed systems (VLDS). Some security properties of the VLDS are formalized in a way that enables one to relate them directly to AI models. Intelligent agents with decision-making capabilities are used for establishing secure channels among various computers in the VLDS. The level of security is quantified, and the impact of belief variations on the security level of the intelligent agents is determined
