Abstract :
This paper will share the operating experiences of the application of dynamic VAR compensation at two locations on a 135 mile transmission loop providing transmission delivery service to eight distribution substations on a 138 KV transmission loop serving growing loads east of Dallas, Texas. The area had previously experienced voltage stability problems on the G&T transmission network. The paper will further summarize the benefits of investigating and applying dynamic VAR compensators for transmission systems as an alternative to adding transmission sources when VAR loading and transmission stability issues are encountered.
