Abstract
We propose and analyze an FDDI-Based Reconfigurable Network (FBRN), with the aim of providing fault-tolerant real-time communication services in mission-critical systems. An FBRN consists of multiple FDDI trunk rings and has the ability to reconfigure itself in the face of extensive damage. We discuss different fault management mechanisms built into the network and analyze their impact on available bandwidth. Our results demonstrate that the FBRN network achieves dramatic improvements in available bandwidth. Thus, the network has minimal degradation in its real-lime performance when faults occur
