Abstract :
The nature of the observed phenomenon of starting resistance is reviewed, along with the accompanying experimental evidence of high drive level altering and sometimes curing the malady. A simple phenomenological model is proposed, and it is shown that this model predicts all of the observed properties of starting resistance with the exception of high drive curing. Mechanisms for this case which are consistent with the model are suggested. Device changes due to high drive which would account for the observed characteristics and fit within the assumptions of the model are discussed
