Abstract
This paper addresses the electrical and mechanical properties and performance characteristics of suspension hardware and connectors for use on high temperature conductors, principally those used in overhead transmission and distribution. While concentrated efforts on conductor design, incorporating the use of composite cores of various materials are on the brink of introduction at the date of this writing, the successful leader in this field to date is ACSS (aluminum conductor - steel supported). Proposed continuous operating temperatures listed for this conductor of 250°C (482°F), present a variety of technical issues for suspension, splicing, and full tension deadend applications of conductors operating at these temperatures, which are addressed.
