Abstract :
Two optical frequency standards based on the 688 THz (436 nm) transition of trapped 171 Yb+ are compared in order to investigate their instability and systematic offsets. Initial experiments demonstrate a relative Allan standard deviation of sigma y(1000s) sime 1middot10-15 and a mean frequency difference of 0.2 Hz at an averaging time of 7000 s
