Abstract :
This paper describes modelling and control of a high speed manufacturing machine where the control problem involves continuous path tracking to make a compliant machine tool follow a pre-determined 3-D profile. A typical application area is the area of robot arm control in material finishing processes. Open-loop control via a stepper motor drive is compared to closed-loop control using a DC servo motor with position feedback. In this second configuration, the response of the system using a conventional PI controller is also compared with that of a fuzzy logic controller
