    Summary form only given.Study of electron beam dynamics in a planar diode with explosive emission cathode is carried out both theoretically and experimentally. 3D simulation is made using an enhanced hybrid code [1] computing electron and plasma motion in different approximations: beam dynamics -in kinetic and plasma expansion - in hydrodynamic. Distributions of current density over the electron beam cross-section are simulated for different cathode shapes and cathode surface properties. Technique for detection and processing of electron beam imprints is developed. Beam imprints, as well as diode perveance and impedance curves are obtained for cathodes of different shapes and diameters. Cathode materials are also varied.
