Abstract
This paper presents an application of the time-frequency methods to characterize the dispersive mechanical waves traveling in a one-dimensional periodic or disordered medium. The dispersion characteristic is a relation between the wave number k and the frequency w: w=w(k) and is another way to express the theory of wave motion without partial differential equation. So, in order to investigate the propagation in complicated waveguides, time-frequency methods may be efficient tools
