Abstract :
As of today there has been no commercial solution available for supplying electrical energy by long distances to small power consumers, i.e. telecom equipment. The current alternative to locally produced power is a 12 kV or 24 kV three phase transmission line or 1 kV for shorter distances. This paper describes a new transmission system that has now been developed and which is simple, reliable and cost effective. The system is stand-alone and can be fed from a central point using an existing subscription and/or central diesel backup. This way several telecom sites can be powered from one reserve diesel plant. This would significantly decrease the need for local diesel plants and lead acid batteries and hence the burden on the environment. The system is fully operational and several systems are in commercial use
