Improved variational wave function for triangular quantum wells and its effect on the scattering rate

Abstract :
New one-parameter variational wave functions are introduced for calculations involving triangular potential wells. Using these trial functions the scattering rates and the relaxation times are evaluated for short range scatterers. The improved wave function leads up to about 22 per cent increase in the scattering rate, and to a similar decrease in the relaxation time
