Abstract :
The evolution of the public switched network to a fully distributed intelligent network architecture with service independent capabilities is examined. The benefits of such a network are described in terms of potential services, responsiveness to end customer and telephone operating company needs, and marketplace and technological trends and challenges. Recommendations on reaching intelligent-network goals are presented
