Abstract :
The authors consider the development of a unified network management architecture (UNMA) with which the local exchange carrier (LEC), in conjunction with premises products and interlata control systems, can offer telecommunication consumers end-to-end network management. Underpinning this approach is a flexible platform based on emerging international standards on which the LEC can interconnect a variety of operations systems. The authors review recent experience with one such system, the NetPartner network management system, and describe the benefits to the LEC and the telecommunication consumer
