Title :
The reliability, security and power quality in rural areas
Abstract :
This paper sets out some of the alternatives for achieving improvements to power system reliability, security and power quality in rural areas. It is difficult to compare the relative merits of the various schemes but this paper attempts to quantify some of the factors and give a benefit rating to the various measures. It gives an estimate of the cost and the benefits of some of the measures which have been proposed. This shows that the costs required to make only a modest improvement in the overall figures is high. These figures are based on some fairly rough estimations and a more scientific evaluation should be possible when the ERA Rural Reliability Program, jointly funded by a number of UK Regional Electricity Companies, is fully implemented
