Abstract
Entrepreneurial development has been viewed as a driving force for the successful transition from planned to market economies. Based on social cognition and self-efficacy theory, this study proposes an entrepreneurial self-efficacy based model of entrepreneurial intention. The model presents the complex interaction among entrepreneurs´ individual characteristics, transition environment, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. And it also shows that entrepreneurial self-efficacy has direct and mediating impact on entrepreneurial intention. This model contributes to better understand and have implications for entrepreneurial practice in countries undergoing the difficult process of transition to a market economy.
