Abstract
Digital technology progress in the electrical power industry during the last five years has made it possible to industrialize and use alternative electronic solutions instead of the conventional inductive type current transformers. Electronic measurement of the current in substations seems to be an upcoming solution and the answer to several applications - due to numerous advantages - and a particularly efficient solution for gas insulated substations (GIS). This paper describes the original features of this current sensor, its mathematical principle, its implementation in GIS from 145 kV to 550 kV, its resolution of the technical problems, and its advantages. It also described the tests performed to verify the solutions and the applications in today´s substations.
