Abstract :
The authors describe potential services providing a market pull for broadband networks and recent technological advances providing a technology push. A long-term broadband network architecture is described that is based on a double star topology, optical transmission, and high-speed circuit and packet switching. Evolutionary paths for broadband network architectures are described whereby broadband network components and capabilities are introduced gradually, as they become available
